My Morning: University of Illinois Students
rise and shine UIUC!
"My morning routine is pretty simple. I normally sleep about an hour before my classes start, I get up and I eat breakfast. This always includes Kefir yoghurt which has really become a staple in my diet. If you have stomach issues a lot, I would highly recommend it! Other than that I change, wash my face, brush my hair & teeth and I'm out the door! I like to not stick to the same thing because it gets old after a while. Throughout high school, I would get up early for volleyball trainings so I'm hoping to be more proactive this year on going to the gym before class."
Zana, Senior, Psych & Geography
"I try to drink a lot of water when I wake up. I’m really bad about drinking as much as I should, but recently I’ve been making a big effort, and right when I wake up seems to be the most effective. It’s also a lot of me spending too much time on trying to figure out an outfit."
Sara, Senior, History and Secondary Education
"My morning routine consists of a shower, then I brush my teeth and shave, if needed, followed by a quick styling of my hair. Then I'll usually pack my lunch for the day and have some breakfast. I try not to skip anything, because I usually schedule enough time to get everything done, but I'll cut out a shower or breakfast if I really need to. I would say this is a pretty regular schedule for me but it's always open to change depending on what I need to accomplish each day. I follow my routine because I'd feel gross without showering and practicing proper hygiene."
Tommy, Senior, Financial Planning
"Wake up last minute as always, hurry to get dressed, brush teeth and grab my things for class. I am not a morning person so my routine has to be as quick as possible."
Cole, Sophomore, Political Science
"I wake up and I put on my contacts and brush my teeth. I don't really do anything special in the morning. I can do/not do things and be ok with either option."
Stanley, Junior, Civil Engineering
"On a good morning (when I don't sleep in), I like to force myself to be a morning person and do a 6:00am run or gym session. I have trouble finding time later in my day for either of these things, and it's a great way to start the day on the right foot. After a shower, I usually make a smoothie, which if you cut & freeze the fruit ahead of time, takes two minutes tops! Finally, if I have time before class or work, I like to read my two morning newsletters: Morning Brew & theSkimm.
On less than ideal days, I get dressed, run out the door, and get to class on time. As much as I try to keep my routine the same, everyday is different and the most important thing for me is that I'm feeling prepared for the day before I leave."
Tara, First semester graduate student,
Master of Human Resources & Industrial Relations (MHRIR)
"Depending on when I start class, I wake up between 9:00-10:00. Take a few minutes to get out of bed and start my routine. Brush my teeth, get dressed, put contacts in are always the first three things I do. Next is to check my bag to make sure I have everything I need for the classes I have that day, and then my day gets started."
Austin, Sophomore, Economics
"I make my breakfast and then my lunch, then I get ready and get my bag together for the day and then I sit down and eat my breakfast before I leave. For the most part, it's the same every day, but it might vary depending on if I'm running late or not. I always still try to eat my breakfast and drink a lot of water first thing in the morning because if I don't, then I feel kind of sluggish throughout the day and I almost always end up dehydrated."
Puja, Senior, Advertising
"I usually get up around two hours before class or work. After I get up, I plan my outfit, make a cup of coffee, and cook breakfast. This process usually takes a while because I'm definitely not a morning person! Before I go to bed, I style my hair so I don't have to worry about that in the morning. I also don't wear makeup because of allergies and personal preference, so I don't have to worry about that either! My morning routine usually remains the same every day unless if I wake up late. I do what I do because it's simple and has worked for me many years!"
Lilyia, Senior, Social Work
